of handyman services
Hourly
rates available on small fiddly jobs or where
impossible to provide price per job.
Most
prices are calculated individually, based on the job information
I receive.

Electric

For
plumbing fault
finding prices are available from £30/half
hour
Plumbing
works are priced per job.
In

Materials
charged separately.

price per job included labor and shopping for materials. I
specify what materials I supply, please inquire in advance if
more info required.
In
case of hourly rates - minimum apply.
For
any work minimum 1 hour for postcodes up to 5 miles
from BURNHAM
For
any work minimum 2 hour for postcodes more than 5
miles from BURNHAM)
Time
is chargeable until I receive money - when I started
my business, some customers made me wait while they come back
with funds or drag me to cash points around town to withdraw
cash. In the busiest time of day or when cash point is broken,
it took over an hour, which is unfair to the next waiting
customer.
Please
make payments upon job completion.
In
case of price per job, after the job is completed, waiting
time is £30/half hour, chargeable per every half hour.
For required jobs, please provide as many details of the job as
possible and I will do my best to provide estimate ASAP. Please
send pictures over MMS, email or WhatsApp with a clear
description, so I am clear what is required. The more info I
get, the more accurate quote I can provide. The price can change
at any time, particularly when new info comes up.
Night
time emergency rate of £99 first hour (applies between the hours
of 10pm & 8am), then charged in half hour increments of
£40/half hour. Cheaper then most around.
Most emergency calls solved in under an hour.
I
provide tuition, in case you want to learn any DIY task at an
hourly rate of £60/hour.
I believe the prices I charge are fair and offer good
value. They allow me to guarantee my work is of the
highest standard. I am fully insured and all works
guaranteed.
Parking
- please understand that all my tools, equipment and fixings are
in the car and I need parking nearby to access whatever is
needed during work period. Parking on the road as long it is not
restricted and there is space. If parking restrictions
in place, the either I can't carry work for you
OR you provide parking , which means the
customer is responsible for providing (and the cost of)
parking. Please can all arrangements be detailed on
booking my services.
Payment
options:
I accept cash only if it is a first time
customer.
Bank transfers are accepted while the
customer is on site and any funds received while still on the
site, before I leave.
I don't accept remote bank transfer (when the
customer is not present) if you are a first time customer due to
bad experience.
TIPS
ON CUTTING COSTS:
Prepare my work space in advance, move any
objects/furniture that may hinder work or access.
Locate stop valves for water/fuse box or main electricity
switch etc.
Provide optimum parking space, for fastest unloading etc.
Describe the work as thoroughly as possible (to ensure
the correct tools are brought) and provide any materials agreed
on, before work commences.
Leave
feedback - I often offer my customers something as a
reward for finding time to write a review, sometimes fast speed
to attending to the urgent job, or sometimes I include lower
cost for next job and sometimes help with resolving difficult
work problems.
Shopping
around for quotes is the most often used to save money,
but please use common sense.
Comparing
just my hourly rate or cost per particular job found on the
web is often misleading and unknowingly you can sometimes end
up paying more.
Here
is a real example. One of my customers called me to rehang a
fallen down down curtain pole after a cheap handyman.
His
rate was£40/hour
cheapest at that time in the area.
My
rate was £60/hour at that time so clearly he was the winner as
an hourly rate, as I am expensive right?
It
took him 2 hours (£80) plus he cutted the wooden curtain pole to
size which he charged £10 for each, so the total cost to the
customer was £100 to fit 2 curtain poles. He used supplied
fixings and fitted it on a plasterboard lined wall. The curtain
pole fell down in a few days.
He
newer came back to refit fallen down curtain pole.
I
fit curtain poles in about half an hour. In hourly rates I don't
charge for extra work (cutting curtain pole in this case), I put
a small charge of £5-£10 for fixings only if the special fixings
are needed (for plasterboard lined walls as most supplied
fixings are suitable for brick wall only) as I have to buy them,
so the total for customer would be one hour + fixings which is
about £60-£70.
I
guarantee my jobs, so if anything happens, I am here to help.
Bottom
line - customer overpaid on that job £30-£40 and end up with a
failed pole and stressed when acknowledged that second pole
going to fail down as well. All of that just because he used
only an hourly rate as comparison, not to mention the additional
cost to refit the pole properly.
I
refitted both poles for £60 and I am his go to handyman ever
since. Both curtain poles are holding well for over 6 years now.
A note on estimates - I specialize in handyman work of a few
hours up to a day or so. I will give you my best estimate
of cost and duration on commencement of work. Your
description of the work, and any photo's you can provide are a
help prior to this. The cost of work can change at any time if
no information was provided or unforeseen info came up during a
project.
Regarding quotes for larger projects, I am obliged to charge for
two hours work (one hour within a five mile radius).
I don't include removal of rubbish as standard, but I can do so
by prior arrangement - please enquire regarding cost for your
job
How
to hire handyman and not overspend.
This
is only my personal opinion of how I would hire any services
based on years of experience.
Type
a few words of your job in the google search engine.

First
comes the Google guaranteed and sponsored ads - both
cost money to be listed there, so prices tend to be highest
there - I always skip those. Paid ads cost money so they
fees are usually highest to make up costs and overheads.
Service provider companies often call small self-employed
trades like me with promise of supplying plenty jobs and offer
to pay low salary to maximize margin and then send workman to
customers like you. Customer pay them online and then they pay
portion of money to the workman. So you pay premium price and
expect premium service. Workman providing service receive less
then when he would if contacted directly, so not really keen
to be bothered to do extra mile and tend to do just the job as
quick as possible as next job waiting. Been there, my
experience, my opinion.
Then
there are google maps listings. Those come with reviews. Those
are you want to read. More reviews the better.
Google
rotate positions on google map listings.
My
google page appear there from time to time.
Reviews
collected over years are most genuine. Reviews collected
in narrow time span look like startup (often no or minimal
experience).
Check
if more positive reviews.
Read
negative reviews. If they are not related to the quality of
the job or anything important to you, just ignore them. There
always will be some person which just had bad day (or
personality ready to complain about everything...) and leave
negative review.
I
have a few negative ones as well... read them if you are
curious, I have written responses to them.
Then
there are organic listings, almost every time there will be a
few directories on top as they are able to spend a lot of
money to pay web developers to be on top. Directories charge
trade fees to sign in to get on board, so it doesn't matter
how good of a job (or not good) the trader is capable of as
long as they pay for registration and directories, in return,
do an advertisement for trader. There will be a mix of good
and no so good traders, but all of them have to pay for
registration on directory, as they have no way only to pass
the cost to the customer in the pricing.
Directories
do very good jobs of advertising as they are always on top of
organic search results.
Directories
also display the lowest prices possible for any job you search
for, just to get customer click the link, and this is called
click-bait. It is very rare that you get displayed a good
price AND a high quality job.
There
are some exceptions, e.g. Little Green Book, that don't
display prices, but they delete every rouge trader who doesn't
care about quality from their directory, so only good
workmanship traders survive in their directories, so they are
definitely worth considering.
Under
the big directories, there are small businesses and
self-employed traders. I have my own web page on that organic
search location, you likely clicked on that search result so
you are reading this article now :)
If
you are shopping around for the cheapest cost - it is cheap
for a reason - generally I would avoid the cheapest jobs where
things can go wrong, but I would consider to hire if the
job required doesn't have much to go wrong, for example
digging a hole for a post (you set the location and size) or
mowing overgrown lawn, garden clearance, e.t.c.
I
hope this article helped you to decide how to choose the right
handyman for you.
