Here are the most common plumbing jobs I do:
Most dripping taps in need for repair are kitchen taps because they are the most used ones, also bathroom basin taps are prone to dripping as the bathroom is second most used area. In my experience I have come across a wide range of tap repairs from single basin taps, to standard kitchen taps and outside taps or garden taps. In the winter, outside taps that are dripping often freeze up and a burst pipe is last thing you want.
In most cases, the most cost effective solution is to repair your dripping tap by changing a tap washer or tap gland.
For a DIY competent person and/or plumber it is a straightforward job. If you going to do a repair on a tap yourself, here are some basic steps to keep in mind, but if you think you really need detailed guidance, you can just call me. I am also going to give you some tips to finish the job successfully, including the most omitted test; which side of tap is actually dripping hot or cold?

Leaky faucets are very annoying as they constantly produce limestone sediment on the faucet where the water drips onto, especially in hard water areas, not to mention that water from that leaks can damage wood surfaces. Most leaky faucets are possible to repair. All you have to do is snap a picture of the leaky faucet and send it over WhatsApp, or give a call, whichever you find easier.
The best way to unblock a sink is with a plunger. The second best way to unblock a sink is with spring snake and pull blockage out of pipe. You can try it yourself with plunger, but if it doesn't work, please call me, I am happy to help.
Occasionally, it is best to dismantle waste pipes under the sink or bath, sometimes you need a spring snake to get access to the blockage. To unblock showers with low tray, using a spring snake is the only option.
In general, any information of your blockage blockage, will help to determine if it's just a blocked toilet or blocked pipe or if there is any other underlining plumbing issue. For example, if after the second or third flush the toilet doesn't empty completely, then it is very likely that the exit drain pipe connection to toilet doesn't slope down enough so water can't discharge quick enough, often caused by improper installation or a long term water leak softened the floor and toilet sagged down a bit.
As experienced plumber I do a lot of work around Windsor, Maidenhead, Slough and all other areas in around 10 miles from Burnham. Here is list of my most often called-for plumbing services.
Here are my most common plumbing services:
Fixing leaks are one of my most common plumbing jobs. When a leak occurs on an exposed bit of pipe, finding the leak is easy, but sometimes the leak is urgent if water drips down from the ceiling. Some plumbers rip down the ceiling or cut large openings in the ceiling prior to find where the leaky pipe is. I usually drill ~10mm hole and use an inspection camera to observe where the pipe or actual leak is. Once the leak is located, I cut the smallest opening possible, just big enough to allow access for tools to repair the leak. Once the leak is repaired and no water drips down even after period of time, then it is possible to redecorate your ceiling, or install a small access panel, so if in future need for access again, there is no need to keep spending money for redecorating.
One of my pictures is done by an inspection camera, where you can see water leaking from a badly done connection in a brand new house. After a short call we established that it is much less disruptive and more cost effective to drill a 10mm hole for an inspection camera rather then repair multiple openings for finding the leak. It took me about 3-4 drills to the ceiling (I filled the holes with white filler in under 5 minutes after work) to locate the exact position of the leak. Then I could cut out the ceiling directly under where the connection failed and make access for tools to repair. I fitted a small access panel, so if in future the pipe burst, leaked or other maintenance was required, there would already be access to it, so there was no need for plastering, just that the ceiling was in need of paint after the leaky pipe.
Leaks under the sink are one of those leaks where it is not always visible where the water actually comes from, particularly when under the sink is a cabinet loaded with stuff, so prior to repairing leaks under a sink you should empty the cabinet. This is the best way to start a repair. Occasionally, long term leaks under sinks can damage the cabinet under the sink and require replacement. I can repair the leak under the sink and if required, I can also replace the cabinet, please ask for a quote. However, most leaks under a sink are linked to waste pipe fittings, which often require the seal to be replaced or the connections to be re-tightened.

I repair all of them. If you want more information about each specific valve, please read below.
1st is that water fill valve doesn't stop the water once the toilet cistern is full, and so the water continues filling the cistern up to an overflowing level and then it overflows to inside the toilet pan(on newer systems), or to an overflow pipe outside(on older systems). Please read the article below about ball valve replacement.
2nd is that the flush valve doesn't seal properly and water escapes around or under the seal down the toilet. Please read the article below about flush valve replacement.
I provide repair services for both, just give me a call:

Sometimes there is no need for an entire valve replacement and rubber seal - diaphragm replacement is the only repair needed in this scenario, but it depends on the state of the rest of the valve.
On modern flush valve replacement - mostly those with buttons, they are sometimes easier to replace BUT only the like for like (exactly the same) model. Sometimes you don't even need tools and a flush valve can be replaced from above, without the need to dismantle your cistern. Unfortunately, sometimes people buy universal flush valves to replace after advice of a shop assistant in hope that it will be cheap as it is universal. Unless that flusher is identical to that in the cistern, there will be no easy/cheap repair as the cistern has to be dismantled to fit different models of flush valves.
When you fit a new kitchen and your fitter is unable to do plumbing, then I can fit your new kitchen tap for you. Also, when changing sink, some come with no tap holes pre-drilled, or you have a granite/composite worktop and you want to add kitchen tap or, for example, a filtered water tap, then you need a tap hole drilled prior to your kitchen tap installation. I can both drill tap hole for kitchen tap and plumb it in as well. I also provide tuition, in case you want to do this job yourself, I can give you a helping hand or guide you in the process of drilling through worktops and plumbing in a kitchen tap.
I can fit outside taps and garden taps in all areas around Slough, Maidenhead and Windsor. Most tap installation service requests come in spring and autumn. Perhaps it is something to do with higher activity in the garden. Some people try to install outdoor taps themselves - as long you have all the tools and knowledge then go ahead, but if you are busy or don't feel you are up to, then it is best to call a pro.

Most broken pipes are either copper pipes or plastic pipes. I am equipped to deal with both versions. If any damage to a broken pipe is visible, please snap a pic and forward it to me, so I can source necessary spares in advance.

I had a fantastic experience with George! While I was away, there was a broken curtain rail at my Airbnb, and I was feeling quite panicky because I had guests staying there. I didn't want them to have an evening without bedroom curtains. However, George quickly responded to the situation and did a brilliant job fixing the curtain rail. He saved the day for me and my guests, and I couldn't be more grateful for his prompt and professional service. I highly recommend George for anyone needing reliable help with their Airbnb or any other handyman tasks! ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ |

George has been a life saver for us many times since we moved into our first house in 2020. As first time owners, there were many things we didn’t know how to do, such as installing appliances, installing blocblinds on vlux windows, installing ceiling speakers, mounting large tvs, drilling and mounting on brick, securing stair gates, electrical issues, etc etc. the list goes on. Handyman George has come out to help us move in and get settled in our home and continues to help us to this day as we make updates and changes. He’s really thoughtful and thorough, and always finds clever solutions to tricky problems. I can always trust the job is done right and reliable when George does it, which is super important as many of things in my house must stand the test of young children: both sturdy and safe. Many thanks for all your help in the past couple of years. ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ |

I can't praise George highly enough. I'd give him more stars if I could! The standard of his work is extremely high. He is completely reliable, and if he says that he'll come on a day, he turns up on time. Everything is carefully explained. He is very creative and inventive, and can find solutions to problems that had seemed almost unsolvable. I am really delighted with everything he has done for us since our move into the area. ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ |
